Dunsmuir Lodge

The Dunsmuir Lodge is a lovely, budget-wise little gem. It definitely has an old-school road trip vibe. Comfy bed, delicious water right out of the tap, wifi, a sheltered porch with welcoming overhang, a gazebo, two different little picnic table areas, gorgeous old oak trees, blackberries to pick in summer, and what seems to be a large meadow for kids to run around in the downward slope out back. It isn't fancy, but it is homey, and very clean. Our room (11) had its own air conditioner and it wasn't too noisy. Other family members stayed in the suite, down near the office. They seemed happy! Our only very minor quibble - the in-room coffee pot leaked. It had already melted/marred the table surface before we ever used it. This risk could easily be amended by replacing the coffee maker and/or putting a waterproof tray under the coffee service area. Next time we come to the area (soon!) this will be our go-to motel choice.

I discovered this lodge in April 2024 during my drive from WA to the Bay Area; had a great experience. I returned to this lodge last month (July 2025) to spend time with family who drove from the Bay Area. We all had a great time! Friendly staff, well-kept lodge, pet-friendly, and conveniently located to many great outdoors/recreational spots. I look forward to my next stay here 🙂

Welcoming, attractive motor inn! The staff obviously care about the property and their guests' experience. Everybody we talked to (which really came down to two people; it's a small operation) was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay. Our room was in good shape and nicely appointed, and, to its credit, didn't feel just like a generic American motel room. Noise wasn't an issue, and the whole vibe was good. You're a minute from the freeway, and around a mile from downtown Dunsmuir on a green and semi-rural stretch of road that I've always liked.

The gentleman at the front desk was very nice while checking in. We got the double room door number 12 for the family. When we first checked into our room we noticed at least 50 ants crawling all over our toilet. Not including the ones on the wall in the bathroom, or the ones around the room. We quickly brought this to staff and the gentleman said ants must have crawled into the room when they left the front door open while washing dog urine that was in up front of the room. (I say bs!!) They were coming in from the cracks on the walls and elsewhere. We left for a few hours. When we returned, we noticed the staff left a can of ant spray on the toilet along with a rag to I guess wipe up and kill more ants. Looked like they did kill some of the ants. There was ants crawling on that rag and more that we found in the bathroom. We again brought this up to the staff and said this was unacceptable. We’re leavin.We wanted a refund. The guy said all he could do was refund only one of the two days and he’d talk to his boss about the other. We never stayed more than 20 minutes in our room. I can’t believe management would think this is acceptable for a family to stay in. The pictures online look better than reality. We had some sketchy people staring at us sitting outside of their rooms drinking and smoking cigarettes. The front office is old, dirty, and not presentable. Take your money and go elsewhere.

The front desk man was super nice and welcoming, even though I checked in pretty late. They do allow pets, and even offered an extra blanket for my dog. It's super cute here, very quiet very clean, and it feels way nicer staying here than at a large, plain Jane chain hotel. . I would definitely stay here again.

I was very grateful for the accommodations of this motel. The owner was very kind and helpful to me as a PCT hiker and the front desk Staff were very kind and friendly. The place is set in a wooded area and you really can’t hear any freeway noise and it is quiet and peaceful here, and the beds were extremely comfortable. I am very grateful that the owner was willing to give me a ride Source and that they have some supplies in their office such as meals and ice cream and breakfast items. I felt the prices were reasonable and that the place was laid-back. I give it five stars, for all the reasons stated above.

Clean room,quiet location, pet friendly. Pretty views of the trees to the east.

Had availability for a Friday night. Booked through a travel site same day. Might try calling the lodge directly for possibly a better rate. Microwave in lobby but good size frig in the room. Rustic decor. Be prepared for falling acorns. Room temps controlled by an equipment room, not in the individual rooms so had to have temp adjusted by having the office. Don't believe I've ever encountered that in all my travels. Once it was adjusted & chill off it was just fine.
