Carriage House Inn

This place is a total gem! I can't put into words how tranquil, peaceful and comfortable my stay was. I stayed in the feather room, which was so lovely because it had a balcony that overlooked the river and also had a view of the beautiful Sierra mountains in the background landscape. (The staff even left me a personalized greeting card on the table for when I arrived!) The air was fresh because there is a breeze from the river and also a large tree which provided just the right amount of shade. The room was spacious and sweet- feather decor and real feathers in the room- made it just the right vibe for a night's stay in the quiet mountains. There was even a little kitchenette and living room space. Ahhhh- what a treat to have stayed RIGHT in the middle of town, and have it be so serene and majestic. Everything was clean and well kept, close to all the little shops nearby (Check out the Boomtown Wine & Beer Lounge- EPIC bbq pizza bites are SO delish!) Thank you to all the staff who made my stay so completely welcoming and warm. I will for sure be back!

This was the second year in a row that my family and I stayed at the Carriage House Inn, but my family has a rich and lengthy history in the area dating back to the 1960's. We're up here every year. I also have a large family, and Lydia has been so helpful in getting us scheduled each year. All I have to do is email over my requests and she gets me all set up. When we all show up, the paperwork is completed, and keys are ready in the lobby. My work life is extremely complicated and stressful. I love anything that can make my life less complicated, and this type of service does exactly that! ||When we are up here, we play hard, and the Carriage House Inn is our go to home base to retreat from working and playing in a creek on our mining claim, and to relax next to the calm Downie River. The rooms are super clean, comfortable, and feel like home. Our favorite is the River loft since it has a kitchenette, but we also enjoy the spacious #8, the available BBQ, and fire pits to make smores at night by the river. Overall, the service, staff, and locations are top-notch! I highly recommend! ||Thank you, Mike and Sonya, for another great and memorable stay in Downieville. We'll see you next year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-star service and accommodations. Our room was spacious, and the best part was the outdoor balcony just steps from the Yuba River, with views of the red bridge and a magical forest backdrop. There’s a calming stillness in listening to the river flow—the perfect background for relaxing or falling asleep to nature’s soundtrack. I never had to drive—everything I needed was within walking distance: the river, hikes, mountain bike trails, Old Town bar, amazing food, and the kindest, most welcoming people. The coffee shop, ice cream, and breakfast were also fantastic. If you want to escape to a place where you can truly exhale and relax, this is it. The service was beyond top-notch. Thank you to the staff and owner—Sonja, Lydia, Yani, and Natalie—for your warm hospitality. Also worth noting: the room had a legit working fridge, which came in handy.

We didn’t have a reservation, but saw that there was a vacancy. Both the Carriage House and the Riverside are owned by the same person and Natalie at the Riverside was so friendly and accommodating. She checked us into the Agate room at the Carriage house and walked us over to the room and handed us the key. She also had cookies for us from a local bakery and coupon vouchers for a local ice cream shop. The room was cozy, clean and updated. The balcony overlooks the river below and has two very comfortable chairs.

You won’t want to leave! We were looking for a quick getaway from Sparks, NV and decided on Downieville. The Carriage House Inn, or CHI, was highly rated for good reason. The love and care that has been put into their guests having a perfect experience is obvious the second you arrive. You are greeted by the friendliest staff and you will find your personalized envelope with everything you need to kick off your stay. We stayed in the Feather Suite and it was spacious with a nice welcome book that tells you about the staff, the local restaurants, sites to see nearby and the number to text if you need anything at all. They do host a happy hour a couple doors down at Boomtown and depending on when you are staying, you may catch trivia night. Coffee and breakfast are pretty much right outside your door. Everywhere we went had #vegan options too. This location is incredible. You can fall asleep to the sound of the river or sit out on the patio to relax. Everything is just a few steps from your door. We walked right across the street to Jadaa’s restaurant for lunch one of the days we were here. The town closes up fairly early do you don’t need to worry about noise. You will get the best nights sleep here.

You guys what a gem! Service from Natalie, Lydia, Yani, and the owner was 5 STAR! The most darling town and hospital hotel. The nostalgia of going back in time, all while somehow time stood still. Steps from the Yuba River to float, hike, and enjoy the stunning nature surrounding you of the Tahoe National Forest. Take the drive, book the room! Go to the coffee shop and visit the locals, the food is so yummy too! Donna at the Bar is an added bonus of fun! Definitely returning and bringing family! This destination is good for a girls trip, a peaceful get away or bring the whole fam!

The carriage house is a charming inn. You could tell the management puts in a lot of effort to make the place nice, and accommodating. We had a room overlooking the river that was beautiful. The room comes with a microwave and refrigerator. Bring your own coffee and mugs if you want coffee first thing in the morning. ||We stayed there on a Saturday in mid February the town is charming but extremely quiet. Only a few restaurants are open at this time. But you have the whole town to yourself. We brought a dog. Right across the bridge about 50 yards from the hotel entrance there’s a nice little patch of grass to let them stretch their feet…|| We came from Auburn California to Downeyville a beautiful drive then went back home through Sierra city and Sierraville, via Truckee a beautiful drive highly recommended.
